Always opening .doc files with Pages

Always been frustrated opening .doc files on a Mac since it won’t use Pages by default. Sadly, using the “Open With” option when right clicking on the file and checking a box to always use that desired application doesn’t work. At least not for Pages.

Another simple, working solution is to right click on the file, select “Get Info” and open a section called “Open with:” where you can change the default application for all files of that type.

The article linked to provides more details and other methods. Neat tip I didn’t know is that if you hold the ALT key when right clicking on a file, different options appear. For example, “Open With” changes to “Always Open With”.
